Enter in the history of the smartest avenue of Paris! This prestigious stroll plunges you into the exclusive universe of the Parisian fashion.

The avenue exists since 1850 and is a part of the “golden triangle”, symbol of the fashion and the luxury in Paris. It shelters the famous brands of the high designers of Chanel to Dior including Louis Vuitton, Chloé, Céline, Saint Laurent or Prada. The avenue is coupled with Madison Avenue in New York today.

We shall tell you the history of the big fashion houses since Christian Dior and the birth of the style ” new look “. In 1947, Christian Dior settles his store in n°30 of the avenue Montaigne. He presents his first collection to the press at the age of 42 in the lounges of his new house.

The new silhouettes parade presenting lengthes, volumes and busts sexy in devil… Camel Snow, the editor-in-chief of the magazine Harper Bazaar exclaims: ” my dear Christian, your dresses have such a New Look! “. The brilliant formula is resumed by all the journalists. A style was born! Two years hardly after the war, Christian definitively turns over a page of the gloom, the rationing. He wants to restore the taste of the lightness and the art to please. He opens a new chapter in the history of the fashion. Quite the big Hollywood stars adopt his style: Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall… Marlène Dietrich imposes him even to his producers: “No. Dior, No. Dietrich! “.

This walk also leads you in the steps of the designers Pierre Cardin and of its mansion, as well as the debuts of Yves-Saint-Laurent’s career.

Finally, we shall observe the magnificent facade of the famous Théâtre des Champs Elysées built by Auguste Perrete and orned by the sculptor Bourdelle. Inaugurated in 1913, the building innovates by its decoration of art deco style. We shall stop in front of Plaza Athénée, temple of eclectic style in the beautiful red facades covered with geranium. We shall look for the souvenirs of the spy Mata-Hari, arrested in the hotel in 1917, and lovers Marlène Dietrich and Jean Gabin. Plaza is famous for its luxurious suites ” eiffel ” and “royal” (of more than 450 m2 having seen on the Eiffel Tower).
