Description

Proposed expedition is the discovery of the imperial palaces of the Ottoman Empire built on the Bosphorus shores. Those residences of last emperors witnessed the last centuries of a big empire that left behind a significant heritage for the global history. This program will also enable you to get to know the water civilisation feature of the Ottoman Empire.
The itinerary will begin with the visit of Dolmahce Palace. Built in 1855 under the reign of Sultan Abdulmecid, consisted of 285 rooms, 45 halls on a surface of 15.000 m2.
Next, visit of Yildiz Palace. Situated on a hill Yildiz (meaning Star) of a major district Besiktas. It was formerly a hunt field, in 19th Century the 34th Sultan of the empire, Abdulhamid, ordered the construction of the palace. Composed of multiple buildings this place has become the new administration center of Ottoman government until the end of Abdulmahid II’s rule in 1909 after 33 years on the throne. The tour will continue with the visit of Malta Mansions and its workshop of ceramics.
The lunch will be followed by the visit of The Museum of imperial collections of the palaces (Saray Kolleksiyonlari Muzesi ) : the ancient kitchen of the Dolmabahce Palace has been renovated to display 5.000 objects used by the habitants of the imperial palaces. Toys, clothes of princes and princesses, daily stuffs like shavers of sultans etc. will allow you to make a journey to the daily life in the imperial palaces of the Ottoman Empire.
The Maritime Museum will be the next visit of the tour. (Deniz Muzesi). Exploring the naval military force of the Ottoman Empire. A rich collection of 4.000 objects related to the sea. The museum has also an exibition of the ciacos of the Ottoman Sultans.
The discovery ends with a walk in the neighbourhood of Ortakoy. An old village of fisherman, today a very buzzing, vibrant centre of attraction for social life, with posh cafes, restaurants, and bars, day and night. Situated on the shore under the leg of Bosphorous Bridge connecting Europe to Asia.
