Istanbul ran his 38th marathon
The transcontinental marathon from Asia to Europe hosted 90 elite athletes including 28 of Turkey’s top runners, as well as thousands of others who were willing to challenge themselves by running 42 kilometres (26 miles).
The Istanbul Marathon is an international athletics event organised by the metropolitan municipality in Istanbul, every year on a Sunday in October since 1979. In 2012, the month was changed from October to November. Istanbul, Turkey, November 13, 2016.
The Azerbaijani origin, Kenyan athlete Evans Kiplagat Barkowet, 28, won Sunday in 2 h 13 min 28, the 38th edition of the Istanbul marathon.
Barkowet has prevailed before the Shura Kitata Tola Ethiopian and Kenyan Peter Kiptoo Kiplagat. In women, it is the Kenyan Agnes Jeruto Barsosio, born in 1983, won the best time, 2 hours 28 min 24sec, before the Ethiopian Sechale Adugna Dalasa and Rahma Tusa Chota.
Tens of thousands of professional and amateur riders clashed, under a grey sky and supervised by a major police system, the 42 km of the race, which started on the Asian side and ended on the European side of Istanbul.
